The Death of Newspapers?

I think that newspapers are dying out basically at the same rate as the generation that has gotten used to reading them. The younger generation that is more in touch with the internet likes blogs and news websites and other 2.0 forms of news, while the older generation still likes newspapers and such. I don't think that newspapers will ever die out while that generation is still supporting news in that format. Once they're gone I think it's perfectly plausible that all news will be on the internet more or less.

It's getting harder for newspapers because of the ease of accessability with news on the internet, and also that it's free. With newspapers, you have to pay the subscription, news online is for free. Also it's just much easier to get news off the internet. Everybody's on the internet already anyways, it's just easier to click on CBC News or whatever your outlet might be than to go out to your mailbox and get a newspaper.

I don't think we should care that newspapers are dying out. This is just the newest way to get news. I don't think old days people were angry when they went from cave drawings to newspapers, I'm sure they loved the new easy way to know what was happening around them. It's just the same with online news. It's newer, faster, cheaper, everything.

I've already listed most of the advantages to online news, I guess one advantage of newspapers is that they're a little bit easier to read because it's on paper and some people's eyes hurt when they read off of a computer screen. Another advantage to online news is that you don't have any of the garbage that newspapers make. Online news is green and it doesn't cost any trees to make.

I won't personally miss newspapers because I don't particularily like them in the first but I'm sure there are some people that will miss the old fashioned way of doing things.

Blog Assignment #1 - The Death of Newspapers

With the steady increase of the internet, it is becoming increasingly hard for other forms of news like newspapers to survive. With hundreds of websites dedicated to informing people on news, it is becoming much easier for people to become informed. The internet has become integrated with many mobile devices allowing people to easily check things wherever they are. Many of these news companies like CNN, CBC, BBC, Global News, and many others are using the web for a way to communicate information to other people. Even many newspaper companies like the New York Times, have online versions of their newspapers, which forces us to ask the question, is it even necessary to continue to print newspapers?

Many will argue that newspapers still serve a purpose. Mainly to the older generation and to those who prefer to read something that is a hard copy, I know many people that still do this. Some people just prefer it compared to a digital copy, but the way that the world is evolving when it comes to technology, is it going to be possible for people to read a newspaper in 10 years?

The signs are clear and now it’s just a matter of figuring out when the time will come with newspapers will officially die. Newspapers have been struggling to survive because they simply can not bring in as much profit as they use to be able too. And with free access to internet and websites, who wants to pay for a newspaper?
