Blog Assignment #3 - Ethics and Freedom of the Press

The freedom of the press is something that is talked about a lot today. Journalists have been ridiculed for ages. No matter what they do, there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t like what they’ve done or just doesn’t agree. Now whether they agree with journalists or not, they should agree that they have the right to do what they do. It’s their right to exercise freedom in finding and publishing a story, in order to inform the general public. Isn’t that what the Canadian Codes & Ethics for Journalists says?

Journalists have the freedom to take a story and publish it. But they should also be taking into accounts the different parts of the story. All the viewpoints and angles. Which doesn’t always happen. Journalists should be finding the right story, all parts, not just one. This is where the problem of Journalism lies. Fortunately, it’s an easy fix, it’s just up to the Journalist themselves to figure that out and do the right thing.

  1. How might the concept of Freedom of the Press take on a whole new meaning in a Communist country?
